Giovanni Boni (= Pietro Giuseppe Gaetano Boni)
The identity of Giovanni Boni has long been uncertain; he is known by this name only from the Walsh publication that is the basis for this edition. However, as these six sonatas (together with six others) were previously published by Cleton in Rome as being by Pietro Giuseppe Gaetano Boni, it seems likely that Walsh's source was the Cleton publication and that he opted for a simpler given name. Pietro was born in Bologna, probably around 1690, and traveled to Rome in 1711, where he was much influenced by the school of Corelli. He remained there for some years, probably until around 1720. He is found in Bologna again in 1726 and is presumed to have died around 1750.
